Ephemeral Fragments is an improvising trio with Florian Walter on tubax, Emily Wittbrodt on cello, and Korhan Erel on electronics. They played their first concert on April 29th, 2019 when Florian asked the other two musicians to play with him at his concert series at Alte Mitte in Essen. Happy with the results of this concert, the three musicians decided to go forward with this line up and played a recording session later in 2019. Despite the onset of the pandemic, they have rehearsed, played shows, and even recorded their debut album “mit gefühl”, which they released on Umland Records (vinyl and digital) in 2022.
The three musicians, who are successfully and internationally active in multidisciplinary projects, contribute to the total sound by interpreting the potentials of their individual musican backgrounds, but without confining themselves in their respective borders. Their music is characterized by an enormous density of textures and depth in sound without wandering too far away from a solid sense of control and reduction.
Ephemeral Fragments have been awarded the Ensemble Grant by the Culture Secretariat of North-Rhine Westphalia for 2025-2027

“There is a lot brewing with atmospheric density in hybrid color mixtures, fine sound nuances and melodic remnants between restlessness and contemplation, provided with a proper quantum of melancholy. Best listen at night.”

“The timbres complement each other perfectly, the statements do not bubble over, quite the contrary. The unobtrusiveness and the reduction to the essential, both already somewhat out of fashion, leave pointedly set scent marks on this record, which was recorded in the old mayor’s house in Essen. There she sniffs, the sensitive dog. The group sound is worked on with a lot of care and, yes, with feeling…”
