The second one is a brand new formation called oFFF with young talents Derya Günaydın (texts, spoken word), Gözde Oktar (violin) joining forces with Korhan Erel (computer, controllers) and Şevket Akıncı. oFFF plays composed and structured pieces that feature spoken word, with occasional improvisations.

Das Goldene Voxtrottquartet: Claudia Cervenca, Irene Kepl, Stefan Fraunberger, Korhan Erel

Stefan Fraunberger, Korhan Erel, Claudia Cervenca

Korhan Erel will play a freely improvised set with Vienna-based musicians Claudia Cervenca (voice, electronics), Irene Kepl (violin, electronics) and Stefan Fraunberger (dulcimer, objects) at mo.ë in Vienna on February 7, 2014. The concert will also feature culture-bending and gender-bending costumes.

Claudia Cervenca is not interested in “singing”, but tries to find new forms of vocal expression in free improvisation and experimental music to achieve a means of “painting” with vocal elements: patterns of sound, colors and noises evolving towards spoken word, instant poetry or song improvisations, melting all together into a „language of expression“ she calls Extended Voice Performance.

Irene Kepl

Irene Kepl

Irene Kepl is a award-winning violinist and composer active in new music, free improvisation, composition and jazz, as well as collaborations in film, theater and dance. She is the founder of the Violet Spin string quartet, which plays groove and new music.

Stefan Fraunberger describes himself as a Vienna-based exponent of humanity working with the drama of states, with the intended task is of encountering fields of perception in a sense of differentiating noise, relations, rhythm and space, complemented by studies in experimental electronic music, philosophy, arabic language and islamic sciences in theory and practice.

The concert will start at 20.30. Mo.ë is at Thelemangasse 4/1-3 1170, Vienna.

Korhan Erel will play two concerts with Gunnar Lettow, his duo partner in Lettow / Erel, in Berlin in January. The pair have been playing together since 2011 and have had numerous concerts in Germany and Istanbul. Their collaboration is a balanced, subtle but complex interweaving of analog, acoustic sounds and digitally processed field recordings, found sounds. Please go to Lettow / Erel for more information.

First of these concerts will be with Pivot, a duo by Liz Allbee (trumpet) and Chris Heenan (contrabass sax, alto sax), at Sowieso on January 10. The two duo performances will be followed by a freely improvised quartet performance. Concerts at Sowieso start at 20.30 sharp, so please do your best to be there on time.

The second concert will be with Audrey Chen (cello, voice) at Miss Hecker on January 12. Korhan has played with Audrey in Istanbul and Berlin in 2013 and this will be Audrey’s first performance with Lettow / Erel. The legendary Miss Hecker is a private space in Wedding and its address cannot be revealed publicly, so only those who know the space or those who know people who know the space will be able to see the show. Concert starts at 21.00.

N. Krahl, K. Erel, T. Tüzün, G. Gürkal at Gitarcafe, Dec 2

Nora Krahl and I had known each other only by name, through our common friend Tolga Tüzün, composer, pianist and improviser, until we had a chance meeting at Frank Gratkowski’s house in February 2013. During that meeting, it turned out that Frank also knew Tolga Tüzün through his compositions. Nora is coming to Istanbul at the end of November and we will use this opportunity to play together at Gitarcafe on December 2. As our previous concert with her at Dunia, Tolga Tüzün will also be with us, as well as Korhan’s frequent collaborator Giray Gürkal on electric guitar and effects.

The concert will start at 9.00pm and will cost 15TL.
