Islak Köpek album with Mark Alban Lotz released on Evil Rabbit Records

Islak Köpek’s third album Istanbul improv sessions may 4th, a collaboration with flutist Mark Alban Lotz, has been released on Evil Rabbit Records in September 2011.

The album includes group recordings as well as many duos and trios between Islak Köpek musicians and Mark Alban Lotz. The liner notes are written by prominent jazz critic Kevin Whitehead.

The album should be available on online stores and major music stores soon.

Here are some intial reviews:

Jazzflits.nl (will open a PDF documents in Dutch)

And a short review by Francois Couture on his Monsieur Délire blog:

An interesting free improvisation meeting between globe-trotting flutist Mark Alban Lotz and Turkish improv group Islak Köpek (a quintet comprising two saxes, cello, guitar & laptop). Fifteen short tracks developing occasionally conventional ideas, though always in clever ways. This music is slithering and shaking with life.

New album: Public Computing

Public Computing - Korhan Erel

Two of my recent solo performances are released under the name of ‘Public Computing’ by the UK internet label Electronic Musik. Public Computing contains two live recordings at two Istanbul venues: Kadikoy Gram (February 27, 2011) and 60m2 (April 28, 2011). I played my self-designed performance, sound design and composition tool Omnibus, which is a collection of computer instruments played with a diverse set of controllers.

Electronic Musik is a DIY label which specializes in experimental electronica and improvised music. Formed in 2000 it’s run by the Sound manipulator / Improvising musician Ian Simpson (aka Noise Research) and is non profit making which enables the label to release exactly what it wants (ie: what it likes).

Artists include Eddie Prevost, ASTRO, Fonik, Philippe Petit, Wolf Eyes, Matt Davies, Richard Wilmer, Matthew Shaw, Demons, Astral Social Club, Gary Fisher, A Band, Towering Breaker, Chris Whitehead, Sndsukinspook, Chris Lynn, Lanterns, Vultures, Generic, Kalistongue, Pangea, Graham Dunning, Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt , Thee Moths, ARK, Mutate, Ambient Fabric, Isaac de la Concha, Heddy Boubaker, Gnod, Banist3r, Noise club, Viva la Muerte, Serfs, Spektrox, Barbarians, Phroq, Janx: The Gathering, Ian Watson, Electronic Orgainca Ensemble, Christian Munthe, Martin Ohman, Herve Perez, Cage Cabarrett, Afgan, John Kannenberg, Sannyasin, Bacillus, Noise Research, Vok, Daniel Weaver, Luis Antero, Arklight, Narshe, Lol Coxhill, Paul Burnell + more.

Omnibus

Korhan Erel played a solo set with his computer instrument Omnibus at Gram, one of the new alternative music venues in Kadıköy, Istanbul.

Omnibus is a collection of instruments designed in Ableton Live and Audiomulch by Korhan Erel. Korhan uses Omnibus to play ambient, electro-acoustic and free improvised music either as a solo artist or in collective performances, such as with Islak Köpek, Turkey’s pioneer free improvisation group he co-founded in 2005. He has been working on this instrument collection/performance system for more than a year. The instruments are played with various controllers including Nintendo Wii controllers, iPad, iPod, Novation Launchpad and Korg Nanokontrols. Omnibus uses Korhan’s field recordings, found sounds and sound designs as raw materials and manipulates them using granular, spectral and other means. It can also process external sound sources, such as acoustic instruments.

The recording of the concert is available here as a VBR MP3 file.
